Nicholas William Burns, aged 37, died in his sleep at his home from unknown causes August 25, 2019. He was born in Oakland, California to Robert and Tina Jacobson Burns.

Nicholas (Nick) lived in El Sobrante, California, where he attended Valley View Elementary and El Sobrante Christian Schools. After the family moved to Moraga, California he attended Joaquin Moraga Middle School, Campolindo High School, and Del Oro High School in Walnut Creek, California, where he graduated in 1999. He attended Diablo Valley College from 1999-2002 and transferred to California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California, where he earned his Masters Degree in Computer Science in 2004. Nick was a software engineer for Apple Computers in Cupertino, California, from 2004 until his death. He enjoyed traveling to many places around the world including eastern and Western Europe, and Asia. He also enjoyed online gaming with people from all over the world, and playing board and card games with his nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to his parents, Robert and Tina Jacobson Burns of Brentwood, California, Nick is survived by his brother Brian and his wife Stephanie and their five children, Kobe, Kyla, Brody, Camden, and Brigham of Wellsville, Utah. He is also survived by his brother Robert Burns of Piedmont, California, his wife Shireen, and their two children Colby and Sasha Burns of Lafayette, California

There will be two gatherings to celebrate Nick's life. The first will be an informal service for relatives and friends on Monday, September 16, 2019, from 12 - 2 p.m. at The Alameda Family Funeral home, 12341 Saratoga-Sunnyvale Rd, Saratoga, CA 95070. The second celebration will also be informal, and will be for those not able to attend the earlier service. It will take place at The Event Center, Club Los Meganos, Trilogy Resort, 1700 Trilogy Parkway, Brentwood, California 94513, on September 29, 2019, from 12:30-3:30.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to Code Nation, 85 Broad St., c/o WeWork, 17th Floor, NY, NY 10004, (Code Nation supports disadvantaged children to learn computer coding) or to Bay Area Rescue Mission, POB 1112, Richmond, CA 94802 (A ministry which provides support and training for the homeless for which he had a heart).
